Light your candles and spin those dreidels! For Yo La Tengo fans, Hanukkah starts early with the release of their 12th album – Popular Songs – on September 9th. From what I’ve heard of the album (it’s amazing, of course), it is really shifting gears throughout the song cycle – there’s the blissed out Avalon or Someone Very Similar, the rollicking duet If It’s True and the wide open spaces of Fireside. And I’m definitely digging the groovy Hammond workouts and the string arrangements. I think I’ll go listen to it again.
