T-Shirt Week: The Sidewinder Sleeps

19 08 2009

sidewinderLee Morgan was a hard-bop trumpeter who scored a crossover hit in 1964 with the song The Sidewinder. It was a big surprise to him, as it was originally only recorded as filler for the album. A talented musician, Morgan had a very short jazz shelf-life. He was murdered in 1972 at a jazz club in NYC (between sets, fortunately) by his girlfriend. The T-shirt’s from Friend of Foe.
